For 2024 we are fundraising for Spear.
The Award-winning Spear Programme helps young people overcome the challenges they face and build vital skills for their career, be fully prepared for the workplace and commit to long-term employment. The initial programme runs for six weeks, with a year of support for each candidate to ensure long-term success.
Spear Bournemouth was launched in March 2021 with the aim to support unemployed young people to thrive in work or education, giving them the skills and confidence they need to get into work (or re-enter education) and begin to build a future filled with hope. The Spear Programme has been running for 20 years across the UK, helping over 9,500 young people, and was created by and run in partnership with Resurgo Trust.
Since launching, Spear Bournemouth has worked with more than 200 local young people, 75% of whom are in work or education one year after completing the foundation phase of the programme.

Forest Holme was suggested by one of our members whose husband was so lovingly cared for by them. He was a great supporter of Wessex Chorus and from November 2018 we are pleased to Have Forest Holme as our nominated Charity; we will be fundraising for them for the next two years. We were delighted to be able to visit them and were warmly welcomed by the staff. The Hospice needs to raise £850,000 per year in order to keep running - a big task!
Since 2022 we have had an association with the Moordown Plus Centre.
The centre specialises in supporting and enabling those living with dementia and offers meaningful and stimulating activities such as: arts and crafts, cookery, singing, dancing, chair exercises, reminiscing, DIY and gardening.
We look forward to continuing singing and raising funds for them.

Our very first charity was the Alzheimer’s Society – which offers support to people with dementia and their carers.
Our second was Children’s Wish Bournemouth – granting wishes to children with life threatening illnesses. Their aim is to bring a bit of magic and special memories at a difficult time in a child’s life.
Our third was the Youth Cancer Trust – a charity providing support and free activity holidays for young people diagnosed and living with any malignant disease.
In the following years we raised funds for Help & Care Bournemouth, then the Bournemouth Blind Society and Forest Holme.
For 2022 we added four new charities - the Dorset Children's Foundation, Music Therapy at Poole Hospital, Hope for Food and the Moordown Plus Centre.
For 2024 we welcomed Spear, Bournemouth to our fundraising - this charity supports unemployed young people to get back into work or education and thrive there .
